Legacy
When Willard died in 1898 at age 58, she was one of the most famous women of her time. People across the country and throughout the world mourned her. The Illinois state legislature voted unanimously to place Willard's statue in the U.S. Capitol’s Statuary Hall. Installed in 1905, the statue continues to celebrate Willard's ground-breaking work for women's rights.
